Elementary school and kindergarten teachers lead their students in activities which promote their physical, mental, and social well-being and help prepare them for further schooling. These teachers prepare courses based on an approved curriculum, assign and correct homework and help to identify special needs of individual students.

Elementary school and kindergarten teachers teach students using a variety of methods, including (but not limited to) lessons, discussions, video and audio presentations and field trips. They assign and correct homework, prepare, administer and correct tests and evaluate the progress of their students. These teachers also discuss their results with parents and other teachers or school officials. They also regularly attend teacher training conferences and workshops.

With experience, these teachers may become school principals or education consultants.
