17-29 ACCOUNTANT (Regular full-time position)

is seeking a qualified and dedicated individual to fill a
regular full-time position as an Accountant in the Financial Services department.
Reporting to the Manager of Financial services, the incumbent will be responsible for the accounting cycle of all funds of the University for the internal and external financial statements. The Accountant is also responsible for all government reporting including reports required by the various research agencies. This position has a work week of 32.5 hours from Monday to Friday.
Nature of duties and responsibilities
Prepare the monthly reports for the operating fund
Participate in the coordination of the year-end activities for the preparation of the external financial statements including the audit for the three funds (operating fund, restricted fund and capital fund)
Prepare account analysis and reconciliations with required supporting evidence for year-end purposes for the three funds
Responsible for the financial reporting of the capital projects and the restricted funds
Review current accounting processes, make recommendations and implement changes to streamline operations
Assist in the preparation of the annual budget
Responsible for the preparation of financial reports for governments including reports for research agencies
Coordinate the work of student members working in the Financial Services Department
Work with other departments to ensure that all government reporting is consistent and accurate with the University’s records, and provide support where required
Assist in the implementation of internal controls, support the Manager of Financial Services in special
projects including the evolution of the financial system
Perform various administrative and financial tasks for the Bishop’s University Foundation
Provide support and provide recommendations for other accounting and financial tasks as required
Other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements
University degree in Business / Commerce with accounting specialization
Accounting designation would be an asset
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in general accounting and the preparation of financial statements
Very good knowledge of computerized General Ledger systems and Microsoft Excel
Very good knowledge of external audit processes
Excellent ability to work in a team and under pressure
Capacity to adapt to changes in work environments
Must be bilingual (English and French) written and spoken
Classification: Class 14 $26.65 to $34.78 per hour
