Bishop’s University is seeking a qualified and dedicated individual to fill a temporary full-time position as Instructional Designer & Technologist. Reporting to the Manager of IT Support Services, the incumbent will be responsible for the implementation and support of Learning Management Systems in the Teaching & Learning Centre. This role works closely with Faculty and IT support services including day-to-day support for Faculty who are teaching in an online or hybrid context and for Faculty seeking assistance with conversion of existing and new courses to be delivered using multimedia technologies. Duties will also include organization and delivery of professional development sessions as well as the development of a virtual Teaching Centre among Maple League universities.. This position has a work week of 32.5  hours from Monday to Friday. This position will not exceed two years.

Nature of duties and responsibilities

  • Leverage knowledge and experience to support faculty to design fully online and hybrid course curriculum
  • Assist faculty in selection and use of online teaching tools including the Moodle Learning Management System
  • Coordinate and conduct faculty development and training related to teaching online
  • Collaborate with Traditional and Nontraditional faculty, directors and ITS staff
  • Help Faculty migrate and redesign course content as appropriate
  • Develop templates for consistent, reusable online courses
  • Advise on the development of policies and procedures related to course construction and faculty delivery
  • Research and implement new solutions for improved online course offerings
  • Assist faculty to determine the best course delivery mechanisms and tools
  • Work with ITS staff for optimal deployment of online platforms available at Bishop’s and to troubleshoot issues with these technologies
  • Collaborate with colleagues to establish quality assurance guidelines for courses delivered in online or hybrid format
  • May serve on select related committees
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 3-5 years related experience with demonstrated knowledge of best practices in instructional design and educational technology in the context of higher education online
  • Experience with Learning Management System and Online Course curriculum development
  • Familiarity with emerging learning technologies (lecture capture, streaming, audience response, multimedia, collaboration, etc.)
  • Ability to work constructively with faculty on curriculum development and delivery
  • Ability to develop and deliver training to small and large audiences
  • Experience developing online course content including training programs to streamline delivery
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage simultaneous projects
  • Demonstrated experience writing and receiving grants is considered an asset
  • A background in teaching and learning is considered an asset
  • Must have excellent written and verbal bilingual communication skills;
  • Detail oriented, analytical and accurate
  • Self-motivated and able to work within a team structure as well as independently;
  • Strong work ethic with excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Available for occasional travel to sister schools as required;
  • Must be a self-starter who takes initiative and is proactive.
  • Must communicate effectively and maintain a positive rapport with faculty and staff

Classification:  Class 14   $27.18 to $35.48 per hour   (APBU – unionized position)
