Reporting to the Director of Academics, the Teacher-Librarian will create an enthusiastic environment that fosters collaboration, critical thinking and skillful research. Through leadership and expertise, the Teacher-Librarian will ensure the library is aligned with the School’s vision, mission and objectives and will collaborate with faculty, resource personnel and students to ensure effective use of information. Familiar with effective and emerging assistive technologies, the successful candidate will be comfortable working at the intersection of tradition and innovation.
Create a warm and welcoming environment with flexible areas for collaborative learning Ensure that library facilities are arranged for maximum accessibility of materials and ease of supervision of students
Participate in curriculum development and innovative programs
Schedule classes for research, book talks, read-alouds, use of VCR and other media equipment, and tests in the library.
Collaborate with teachers on projects
Gather grade-appropriate materials and prepare presentation to class
Assist individual students in completing projects and assignments
Establish policies and procedures for effective utilization of materials
Schedule, train and supervise library staff including library assistant and student librarians Read professional journals to stay abreast of changes in the field
Evaluate the library media program, services and materials
Prepare, recommend, and administer the adopted library budget.
Prepare reports containing statistics, needs assessment, spending, etc. as needed Participate in library associations
Provide services and media to meet the needs of students and teachers
Instruct individuals and groups in the use of the library and library tools
Encourage the utilization of all instructional materials through displays, announcements in chapel and promotion of the library's materials and services
Introduce and publicize media of special interest
Provide materials for the professional growth of the faculty
Create and maintain an atmosphere conducive to effective library use
Inform and encourage faculty and staff to utilize the library's resources
Ensure the collection is well-maintained, accessible, orderly, and attractive
Ensure the collection includes a variety of formats to support different learning styles. Encourage access to materials, including interlibrary loan for VII students at Bishop’s University Develop the collection according to professional standards and suggestions made by faculty and students.
Qualifications, Education and Experience
- Masters of Library Science (MLS)
- Strong interest in and personal commitment to working with youth
- Excellent communications skills and the proven ability to work independently and
collaboratively with students, faculty and parents
- Teaching experience an asset
- Experience in evaluating and selecting print and digital resources
- Flexible, compassionate, self-motivator
